DUNGEON MASTERS

Why should I volunteer to be a Gary Con Dungeon Master?

Gary Con is striving to put the Game back in Game Convention.  We are a gaming convention, first and foremost, and are always looking to partner with dedicated and commited Dungeon Masters who want to help us make Gary Con the best gaming convention there is.

How do I become a Gary Con Dungeon Master?

Easy!  After registering for a badge for Gary Con, you need to submit your first event.  Once your event is approved and accepted by the Gary Con staff, you are officially a Gary Con DM.

How do I get my badge type to change from Player to Dungeon Master?

Your badge type will be changed automatically once your first event is approved.

How do I submit an event?

You will submit events through the website.  Please select the Registration menu item, which will take you into the My Registration tab in your account details.  Once there, scroll down to the Events Submitted/Approved Summary and then click on the Submit Events link.

How long does it take for my event to be approved?

It depends on how busy our reviewers are.  Typically, it should be between 2 and 5 days.  We generally will not approve events faster than this, in order to give you time to review and revise your submission if needed.

Why doesn't my event show in the catalog?

There are several likely reasons. First, is the event catalog even published yet? We don’t usually release the catalog until December. There is an early release of our event catalog, but that only includes special events and sponsored events. Second, did you get your event submitted properly? Check your Events Submitted/Approved Events section of your registration information. Does your event show up? If not, then please resubmit it. Third, your event may show up in your registration information, but if it has not been approved yet, it will not show up in the event catalog.

How can I edit an already submitted event?

As long as your event has not been approved yet, you may edit your event’s information at any time in the Events Submitted/Approved Events section of your registration information.  Once your event is approved, you will need to contact us directly if anything needs to be changed.

How can I view players that are registered for my event?

In the Events Submitted/Approved Events section of your registration information, each event is listed there. You can click on the number listed in Tickets Remaining. This will give you a list of players registered in your event.

When will I receive a table number/assignment for my event?

Table numbers may be assigned at any time from the time your event is approved until the first day of the convention—your table number will be on your DM event summary sheet as well as your players’ event tickets.  We plan to have many, if not all, table numbers finalized and events submitted by the deadline for the on-site program, however.

What are the benefits of being a Dungeon Master at Gary Con?

We'd like to tell you that since typical Gary Con attendees are some of the best gamers around, your reward is having an awesome gaming experience with a table full of enthusiastic and interested players.  But some DMs will certainly wish for more.  Currently, we plan to give our DMs added experience points for running events and we have big plans in the future for special benefits for our most experienced attendees.  Second, this year we hope to introduce our DM concierge service.  We believe this to be a convention first, and the details are still being worked out, but our goal is make sure our DMs are happy and our concierge service should accomplish that objective.

Will I need to collect tickets and/or fill out any forms at the convention?

The short answer is no.  There will be a player log for each event (called your event summary sheet) and this sheet, along with the players’ tickets, will be collected.  However, we plan to send one of our volunteers to our table to collect these items.  We hope the convenience to you, our DM, in taking care of this administrative burden outweighs the inconvenience of our brief interruption of your game to accomplish this task.

Where do I pick up my event materials at the convention?

Currently, you will pick up your DM event summary sheets along with your badge when you arrive at the convention.  Depending on your arrival date/time, there may be a separate DM registration table, but we will definitely ensure it is well identified.
